Something To Do In The Event of Postponement this Week

Post by Westyeltz » 04 Feb 2014, 12:34

Should we once again fall victim to the weather this might be quite jolly.....

Meanwhile there is lots else going on and we hope to see you at our Wassail event next Saturday...

Wassail 2014 - Saturday 8th February - 4pm

Following on from the great success of last year's Wassail event, there will be another afternoon of wassailing fun this year on Saturday 8th February, this time with musical accompaniment from the colourful Armitage Mummers and Lichfield Morris Men.

Wassailing is an ancient tradition to encourage a good fruit harvest.

We will be assembling in the Bell Inn Car Park at 4pm and processing to the Community Orchard at Vicarage
Lane with Wassail ceremony round the trees followed by a short Mummers Play

In the Cricket Club pavilion where there will be a pay bar. Then there will be supper and a children's disco. Supper will be £4 adults and £3 u-16s.

All welcome and let's hope the snow stays away!

Please wear wellies and weatherproof clothing - and it would be great if you can bring toast with a ribbon attached to hang on trees plus saucepan lid and wooden spoon to help scare away the evil spirits!

It's at Whittington near Lichfield, so in the event of a late postponement this would be ideal as it's about half way back to Yeltzshire (for those who think Coalville is on the moon ::) ).

SEE YOU THERE IF NO MATCH!

And don't forget yer toast ;)

Oh the mummers, the poppers,
The Best Of The Coppers,
Anyone can join in so I discarded my jeans
And played wine-maddened Pentheus, the King of Thebes.
And some Bloomsbury peripheral said I had the best line
"Check your sheds, check your sheds, I think I’ve lost my mind!"
