Midlands Premier League

Post by yeltz85 » 26 Jan 2014, 19:34

Taken forum the Northern Premier League Facebook page. What are your thoughts?

Theres been plenty of talk about a Midlands Premier League at step 3- well using guesswork as to the top 5s in the level below, who might go down at steps 2 & 3 and assuming the top two of each step 3 will go up, allied with some questionable geography of the south of the country, here's how it might look if we had a Midlands Premier next season... (I've returned to the sensible 22 team divisions we used to have)

NPL: Workington, Worksop Town, AFC Fylde, Ashton United, Whitby Town, Blyth Spartans, FC United of Manchester, Matlock Town, Marine, Nantwich Town, Trafford, Ilkeston FC, Buxton, Grantham Town, Witton Albion, Warrington, Curzon Ashton, Darlington, Belper Town, Farsley, Mickleover Sports, Bamber Bridge.

MPL: Barwell, Kings Lynn, Gloucester City, Worcester City, Oxford City, Halesowen, Coalville, Rushall Olympic, Leek Town, Lowestoft, Bury Town, Soham Town, Stamford, Cambridge City, Stourbr*dge, Corby Town, Redditch Utd, St Neots, Daventry Town, Rugby Town, Hungerford, Banbury.

IPL: Wealdstone, Kingstonian, AFC Hornchurch, Bognor Regis, Hendon, Hampton, Leiston, Met Police, Canvey Island, Billericay, Margate, Harrow, Grays, Wingate, VCD Athletic, Peacehaven, Leatherhead, Hastings, Folkestone, Harlow, Whitehawk, Lewes.

SPL: Bideford, Poole, St Albans, Biggleswade, Arlesey, Burnham, Weymouth, Witham Town, Truro, Frome, Chippenham, Dunstable, Royston, Beaconsfield, Guernsey, Merthyr Tydfil, Circencester, Mangotsfield, Paulton, Hitchin, Gosport, Dorchester.

Away to Lowestoft on a Tuesday night would be a right journey!

Other than that, the travelling wouldn't be too bad at all with most places reachable within a couple of hours.

If I'm honest the midland premier sounds like a very good idea! It (obviously) means that all teams will have less distance to travel away. Also, it's a great chance for us to play Dourbridge at last! Save us moving to the southern league to play them anyway. I love the idea!

I like the idea of it.

I also like the idea of us playing teams further away (in nice places mind) and making a weekend of it.

Kings Lynn is not a nice place ;) or Local. Hungerford south of M4 in our area!

Well I will believe it when I see it.

I have said for a few years non league should do what they do in Scotland. Less teams each league and made it more local and play twice home and twice away. Should get more away fans travelling good for gates and less expenses for clubs and fan to travel each week.

For the long distance lovers there is always the FA Cup and FA Trophy as long as Cunnington is not your manager.

Really love the idea! We would probably be a mid-table team in that league but oh well; would be a lot less travel, higher gates and a lot less to folk out in expenses! Brilliant idea.
