The positive side is that the football club is so awash with cash that it can conduct a fatuous rebranding and absorb the cost (stationery changes, ground signage, stock write-down in the shop and so on) whilst also accepting that there will be a commercial impact on terms of lost sales and potentially lost sponsorship.

But at least there are few hundred (at best) page impressions on social media, so that totally justifies the cost

As ever very well put by somebody that understands business. Add that to the history and unhappy people aspects and it really makes it a good move. ::)

It makes a great business argument when you look at it from one point of view alone and totally disregard the other. A few hundred impressions on social media? Try a few hundred thousand?!

Just a tad out so if you don't mind me correcting you. These figures aren't public data so your assumptions are unfortunately incorrect.

Image

First of all we have a spike in page views on the 12th May, the day the badge was announced. A significant increase from previous days.

Image

This is the post reach, just the 22,000 in total. A 112% increase from previous weeks.

Image

And finally the impressions from the badge post alone, just the 8000 more than you expected, at best.

This is only Facebook however, we also had great figures on Twitter but I can't get the specific numbers right now. This doesn't include the Instagram, official website or other news websites (E&S) figures. So I'd say we're doing okay on the digital media front.

Sorry, my wording was loose. It should have really read "additional impressions".

Let's be honest about this - the vast majority of web accesses are from our existing supporter base or from the supporters of other teams on our league looking in either before or after matches against their team.

Whilst I am not sufficiently au fait myself I know those that are gifted with cyber spanners can easily analyse the difference between unique and repeated accesses from the same source. As the spetics say, "go figure".

Thank you for that Dan. It is a shame our posts crossed.

Do you have the long term trend over say, the last two years? I strongly suspect it will be relatively flat with a strong peak in mid-March 2015 for the FCUM visit. I would also expect peaks when there are matches against teams like Salford and Blythe visit.

Finally your data admittedly shows a spike of approx 150 in a single day. Without knowing if they IPs that had repeatedly visited previously it does not support your point - visit does not indicate approval and may be the opposite.

Thanks again for sharing so quickly
