Re: Hereford Updates
Pre-Season Friendly – Saturday, 27th July 2024
Halesowen Town 2 Hereford 2
Halesowen fought back from a two goal first-half deficit to earn a draw against National League North Hereford, writes DJ.
In early Yeltz pressure, Hereford goalkeeper Aaron Chapman saved for a corner at his near post from Conor Tee in the 5th minute. Ben Cassidy then broke down the left and his final shot was turned away before Chapman saved Trialist A’s header from the resulting 7th minute corner.
Hereford suffered a 22nd minute blow when striker Jason Cowley was withdrawn through injury but the Bulls took a 29th minute lead after Andy Williams beat Tom Taylor down the right and squared for their Trialist right-back to steer the ball home.
The visitors added a second goal in the 40th minute when former Stamford winger Cosmos Matwasa met a left wing corner with a header and home goalkeeper Dan Platt was unable to keep the ball out.
Home substitute McKauley Manning struck over the bar at the start of the second half as Halesowen’s recovery gathered pace. Hereford’s Matt Preston was then sent off with a straight red card in the 68th minute after he lost the ball to Adi Yussuf and then pulled back the Yeltz striker to deny a goal-scoring opportunity.
The Yeltz took advantage and pulled a goal back in the 69th minute when Manning’s free-kick found Jak Hickman and his cross was met with a bullet header from Trialist A. Halesowen drew level just three minutes later after a long ball found Manning and he took the ball around goalkeeper Chapman before slotting home from a narrow angle.
With momentum, Halesowen put Hereford’s ten men under the cosh and Chapman saved in the final minute after Hickman’s free-kick from the right was met by second-half substitute Ryan Wollacott.
Halesowen Town (First Half): Dan Platt; Jak Hickman, Ben Cassidy, Trialist A, Ryan Wynter (c), Tom Taylor, Trialist B, Reece Flanagan, Trialist C, Conor Tee, Todd Parker. Second Half Substitutes: Adi Yussuf, Reece Mitchell, Luke Postle, McKauley Manning, Ryan Wollacott, Trialist D, Trialist E.
Hereford (First Half): Aaron Chapman; Lewis Hudson (c), Justice Campbell, Matt Preston, Lawson D’Ath, Alex Babos, Jason Cowley (Aurio Teixeira 22), Andy Williams, Cosmos Matwasa, Kyle Howkins, Trialist A. Second Half Substitutes: Trialist B, Montel Gibson, Mark Derricott, Adam Rooney, Trialist C.
Attendance: 758

Re: Hereford Updates
Still only friendlies and trying things out but becoming increasingly obvious we need a striker.... and Boothe is not the one!!
Look solid at the back with all comfortable on the ball. Cant see what more Kelly can do to impress.
Still feel we lacking some bite in midfield.
One concern is our play is so slow, whether due to lack of movement up front but we look lacking ideas at times.
When we played with a bit of tempo we looked different and got the goals.
Another good workout though against higher level opposition and we more than held our own.
2 weeks to go till we really know what level this squad is at.
