Halfway there

Post by Simons » 26 Jan 2020, 16:17

So we are now halfway through our league matches which has seen us accrue 45 points. My feeling is that we will have to match that return in the second half if we are to win the league, bearing in mind that Peterborough Sports won the league with 95 points last season and Bromsgrove achieved 87. Any thoughts?

Possibly may not need that. Both Berkhamstead and Corby would end up with 84 points should they keep picking up at the current rate. Will not be easy for us to repeat the first half of the season but we may not have to. Or we may just win every game..... ;D

I just can't see us losing.

I know we will, and it's unrealistic to expect us not to lose, but that's how confident I feel about this team, right now.

Realistically get 9 pts from our 3 games in hand then all we have to do is match the other 2's results and we there :)

Corby's games look a bit easier then Berkhamsted's and they have to play each other again. Both have slipped up unexpectedly against lower teams as well, but we will need to win a good majority of the remaining games to ensure we don't go into the single-legs play-off lottery.

Corby did OK against us, but we are a cut above in terms of quality.

I've bored everyone with this from day one but it doesn't matter who is the best team, it'll be the one with most consistency that wins the league. So you can play all the fancy stuff and win 5-0 at home one week, but if you then drop points against some cloggers the next, then it could easily cost you the title.

We just have to keep our form and consistency moving along. I've had a bet on us to win the league and I won't be cashing out, put it like that.

Totally agree. Scruffy 1-0s are just as good from now on in. As long as we don't fall too far behind the others I'm sure we can catch up the points.

Our games in hand are against;

Daventry A
Yaxley H
Didcot H
Berkhamstead A

With respect, I'd expect two home wins, which would obviously see us make up the six point gap.

Berkhamstead could be our rivals for the title, and we've still got to play them twice. The home tie being our last home game of the season (what a game that could be!).

It's all very much in our hands - I'm confident.

Also, five of the next seven league games are at the Grove. February will be a big month for us.
