And so did Coleshill, which says more about them than Stsmford based on last season!

Straightforward win. Should have won by more, and their goal slightly concerning given it came from a long throw again, but really can't complain.

Four points from the next six would probably be acceptable to my mind given the opposition. Also should say absolutely ridiculous away numbers; their previous highest attendance of the season was 106!

That was not the attendance. When we saw it we did a quick head count. 200 to 250 max. I reckon they gave it as 512 instead of 215.

Not the greatest performance, but not great opposition to raise it for. Did the job in hand and aside from the last few minutes of the first half it was never in doubt. The highlight for me today was Jamie Insall, the bloke never stops running. His passion on the field thankfully matches his passion off it.😂 Totally deserved his 2 goals today. Well done lads. Onwards!

I'd guessed at 350 before I'd heard it announced, so would figure as 500 seemed high. Were quite a lot around the balcony and clubhouse, but will defer to your counting!

Good result and performance today, never really in any doubt. Daventry once again very cannon-foddery.

Tougher tests to come in the next week - a welcome boost of form and confidence ahead of that.

Northern Premier League Midlands – Saturday, 8th October 2022

Daventry Town 1 Halesowen Town 4

Halesowen bounced back to winning ways with the aid of two goals from hard-working Jamie Insall, writes DJ.

Pleased assistant manager Martin Sockett thought “it was a good team performance and a big improvement from the last couple of weeks – we created plenty of first-half chances in particular.” Commenting on the two new squad additions, Sockett added “we know Shaquille well, he has plenty of pace and Moussa (Koita) will be a good addition to the midfield - although the paperwork wasn’t completed for today.” Sockett also hinted that Nathan Hayward’s return from injury is only around a week away.

An early shot from Daventry’s Nat Gosnal-Tyler was deflected for a corner but the Yeltz soon settled into their more usual form as Simeon Cobourne set up Richard Gregory to shoot at goalkeeper James Martin after eight minutes. Cobourne then made a superb first-touch and turned to fire at Martin in the 12th minute. Lively Cobourne did well again to rob his last defender in the 24th minute and when his effort was cleared, the home defence escaped as the rebound didn’t quite fall kindly enough for Gregory in front of goal.

Halesowen took the lead in the 26th minute when Bleu McNeil handled under pressure from Cobourne and GREGORY struck home the resulting penalty straight down the middle of Martin’s goal. The Yeltz doubled their lead with a neat 34th minute move culminating in Cobourne playing the ball across goal for Jamie INSALL to tap home.

Alvin Magagada curled a 37th minute shot over the bar from 20 yards for the Purple Army but Halesowen continued to dominate - despite being repeatedly caught offside going forward - and a clever 40th minute flick from McKauley Manning put Cobourne free, only for goalkeeper Martin to gather at his feet.

However, struggling Daventry were given a lifeline with a simple 41st minute goal when a long throw-in from Bleu McNeil was headed on at the near post for Tom LORRAINE to net from close range.

INSALL re-established Halesowen’s two goal winning margin just five minutes into the second half when he capitalised on a poor clearance from goalkeeper Martin and advanced to slot home in calm fashion. Dan Platt made a full-length 52nd minute save from Lorraine but Halesowen remained in control and little-troubled in defence, particularly after home captain Lorraine departed through injury.

The Yeltz made it 4-1 in the 71st minute when Manning’s free-kick was turned away and Tom Turton’s resulting corner was headed at the far post by impressive Dan Brookes and then bundled home by substitute Richard SMITH, just three minutes after arriving on the pitch. The league leaders almost added a fifth goal in injury time when substitute Matt Funge set Smith free, only for Martin to make a good blocking save.
