Not the best performance from us today, was a bit flat at times and feel we are still lacking a bit up top but having said that still feel we gave a good account of ourselves against a team two leagues above and majority of the time you couldn’t really see that difference which is a credit to Paul, the rest of the coaching staff and the players.

Hard to be too critical as it must be hard for players keep getting themselves up for friendlies. We just need the real stuff to start now, hopefully the two games against Stourbr*dge will give that competitive edge.

Pre-Season Friendly – Saturday, 31st July 2021

Halesowen Town 1 Kidderminster Harriers 2

Halesowen’s six game unbeaten pre-season sequence ended after National League neighbours Kidderminster struck twice in the first half, writes David Johnson.

Ahead of the game a one-minute applause was held in the memory of John Hitchman, an incredibly loyal Yeltz fan for many years, a proud family man and an uplifting close friend to many, who sadly passed away on Sunday, 25th July, aged 79.

The Harriers made a great start when Keziah MARTIN converted a 3rd minute rebound from a wide angle after home goalkeeper Dan Platt saved well from Sam Austin on the break.

Halesowen’s Richard Gregory struck the base of Kiddy’s post with a low shot after ten minutes but the visitors went close again when Omari Sterling dragged wide a minute later and Platt made a fine blocking save from Ethan Freemantle’s shot from the right mid-way through the first half.

Sam AUSTIN then doubled Kidderminster’s lead in the 38th minute by turning home Sterling’s low right-wing cross from ten yards out.

Jack Holmes provided extra pace for Halesowen after the break and following his penetrating 60th minute run, his 62nd minute cross to Harry White was cleared off the line with Chris Lait also threatening.

But new prospect Joshua MUSSEL finally pulled a 72nd minute goal back for the Yeltz by firing home a loose ball from the centre of the penalty area after Kidderminster failed to clear.
