Looks like we've experimented with Robbie Bunn and Manning as full backs in a 3-5-2, suffice to say, it hasn't worked very well. Barwell have been the better side this half, and have peppered our box with a lot of crosses, and put us under some pressure.

We appear to have adopted a more direct approach, going long to try and exploit the pace of Cobourne. Which you could argue has worked, to an extent, given that it lead to both our goals, but generally it hasn't worked for me.

It's a friendly, and you need to experiment with these things, to see what works and what doesn't. But we haven't played well at all, and we're fortunate to be level!

Still, it's great to have Yeltz back on Saturday's, albeit in very strange streaming circumstances.

3-3, in the end. A really good game, where we were well bellow par for 60 or so mins, but finished much stronger and could have snatched a win at the end.

Pre-Season Friendly – Saturday, 15th August 2020

Halesowen Town 3 Barwell 3

Dan Westwood struck twice as Halesowen pegged back higher league Barwell three times in an entertaining workout held behind closed doors, writes DJ.

Simeon Cobourne was just off target from a wide angle after six minutes and Paul McCone nodded just wide from Robbie Bunn’s second corner in the 8th minute. Josh Hawker was then crowded out after Robbie Bunn threaded a good ball from midfield. Robbie Bunn’s 11th minute shot was palmed away by visiting goalkeeper Max Bramley before his opposite number Brendon Bunn held onto a 12th minute shot from Tristan Dunkley.

Brady HICKEY turned home Dunkley’s 16th minute right-wing cross to put Barwell ahead. Robbie Bunn then struck the base of Barwell’s post from a free-kick and the Yeltz equalised when WESTWOOD nipped in to slot into an empty net following a defensive mix-up from a 21st minute long ball.

But the Canaries restored their lead just a minute later when home defender Ash CARTER could only turn Eddy Nisevic’s left-wing cross into his own net and Barwell’s Zayn Hakeem blasted wide in the 41st minute. WESTWOOD tucked home his second goal two minutes before the interval to make it 2-2 from the penalty spot after Cobourne was brought down as he weaved through.

Barwell played the ball out for Kai WILLIAMS down the left to fire them ahead again in the 48th minute at Brendon Bunn’s near post.

But Halesowen finished strongly with Richard Gregory hitting the side-netting after 64 minutes and Cobourne’s 70th minute effort was deflected over the bar six minutes later.

Young prospect Billy Shaw did well to set up Jamie MOLYNEUX to advance and slot home Halesowen’s third equalising goal with 12 minutes remaining and Shaw almost put the Yeltz ahead with a delicate 83rd minute chip. Bramley then made an excellent double save from Cobourne and Molyneux before Molyneux was denied again in the final minute.

Halesowen Town: First Half: Brendon Bunn; Robbie Bunn, McKauley Manning, Rob Evans, Paul McCone, Ash Carter, Josh Hawker, Reece Hewitt, Dan Westwood, Simeon Cobourne, Ahmed Ali. Second Half Substitutes: Jamie Molyneux, James Bowen, Richard Gregory, Jamie Ashmore, Lewis Wright, Billy Shaw (replacing Dan Westwood, McKauley Manning, Ahmed Ali, Ash Carter, Robbie Bunn and Reece Hewitt)
