PS Josh, as I was scrolling through your tome and wondering if it would ever end ;D, it got me to thinking this would be a great year for some literate bod to write a book on our great club.

I've mentioned on here before this is my first season going to matches. Lived in Halesowen for 3 years they got relegated so figured they could do with the extra support from locals (and I couldn't get wolves tickets)...I feel like a glory hunter now

Buildbase FA Trophy Third Round – Saturday, 8th February 2020

FC Halifax Town 0 Halesowen Town 1

Jamie Molyneux’s winning goal sent glorious Halesowen into the quarter finals of the FA Trophy in a famous victory at high-flying Halifax of the National League, writes DJ.

The memorable early second-half winner was a fitting 100th goal of the season as Halesowen were cheered to victory in their perfect performance by a proud travelling crowd of approximately 400 - including four supporters’ coaches - on an emotionally-charged afternoon at the Shay.

Halifax had been on a great run of form to move into third place in the National League and started on the front foot to enjoy their best spell early in the game. Jeff King burst forward from midfield to fire over the bar from just outside the area in the 3rd minute and a 5th minute shot from lively Jack Redshaw was turned away for a corner by Rob Evans. Danger-man Redshaw laid the ball off for Josh Staunton to fire a low 7th minute shot past the post and another Redshaw shot was deflected away for another corner two minutes later. Staunton then flashed an 11th minute header just wide as the Shaymen kept up the early pressure.

But the Yeltz soon settled and more than held their own man-for-man for the rest of the first half, creating a number of opportunities to defy the huge three league gap. Robbie Bunn’s 13th minute free-kick from the right touchline was turned away for a corner and Jamie Molyneux crossed well for Lewis Wright to poke wide at the far post after 19 minutes before Wright then earned a 22nd minute corner.

Halesowen went closer still when sloppy home defending let in Robbie Bunn to shoot at goalkeeper Sam Johnson and Molyneux was just unable to reach the rebound after Johnson failed to collect cleanly. As Halesowen’s good spell continued, a 31st minute shot from James Bowen deflected into the side-netting for a corner and Molyneux’s 41st minute shot was blocked.

The Yeltz hit their superb giant-killing winner four minutes into the second half when a sublime, pinpoint through ball from Rob Evans dissected the home defence and set up MOLYNEUX to slot home skilfully past Johnson into the bottom corner from 12 yards. The all-important winning goal was Halesowen’s 100th goal of the season and the Yeltz carved open Halifax again in the 53rd minute when Molyneux fed Gibson to strike the side-netting.

With the Shaymen increasingly frustrated, Jerome Binnom-Williams headed on a 64th minute corner for substitute Tobi Sho-Silva to plant an overhead kick high over the bar. Great defending saw Evans turn the ball away for a 71st minute corner and Silva was off target again in the 73rd minute after substitute Jacob Hanson crossed from the by-line. Home captain Nathan Clarke then headed an 84th minute corner wide.

But admirable Halesowen simply grew in stature and never really looked in danger of letting their precious lead slip. Johnson was forced to save after Montel Gibson cut in from the left after 85 minutes before substitute Luke Yates forced an 87th minute corner. The Yeltz then comfortably saw out seven minutes of added time before the celebrations began in the corner of the East Stand as Halesowen’s epic FA Trophy journey now continues onto a remarkable thirteenth tie.

FC Halifax Town: Sam Johnson; Michael Duckworth (Josh McDonald 80), Jerome Binnom-Williams, Nathan Clarke (c), Jamie Allen (Tobi Shi-Silva 59), Cameron King (Jacob Hanson 54), Josh Staunton, Jeff King, Danny Williams, Charlie Cooper, Jack Redshaw. Subs Not Used: Liam Nolan, Will Appleyard.

Only video highlights I’ve found so far at https://youtu.be/Agr8C-kVaOE

It’s from a ground hopper visiting, but if you skip the first few minutes there are some decent match highlights plus a short clip of the goal.

Hopefully there will be some better videos soon, as I really want to watch our goal back again (and again!)

Someone needs to upload our goal on PornHub. It'll be the most sexual video on there, if they do.

I started typing and just carried on! There's not enough words to describe how happy I am today and with this season. I'm absolutely loving it.

Argh. A post of mine vanished. Slight aside. We've earned over £28,000 in prize money this far, minus whatever expenses we incur. Good new for the club.

Yeltz TV Highlights fantastic as ever and free. Thanks Dan. FC Halifax charge £4.99 per month for fans to watch highlights and interviews.

Respect to the Halifax Manager who has said it how it was. See details below.

FC Halifax Town exited the FA Trophy after a 1-0 loss at home to Halesowen. Following the game, Pete Wild spoke Shaymen TV to give his thoughts, the potential red card, back to the league, and Sutton next week.

“We were not good enough,” Wild said. “Fair play to their lads who got it tactically perfect, went man to man with us. We just did not rise to the challenge. Football is about bravery, about sticking you head in where it hurts, getting on top when you are under pressure. We were poor in that respect today. I have no complaints about the result to make, they were the better side. That disappoints as all my sides have heart and desire and there was none of that on show today. I said that in there, if you don’t win headers, tackles and have that bit of composure then you don’t win football matches. We got what we deserved today, we could be playing until tomorrow and we still would not score. I told them that nobody has got any excuse to knock on my door about playing against Sutton, because nobody deserves to be starting next week. It’ll be a blank canvas and I’ll pick the best 11.”

Michael Duckworth was brought down the 76th minute with Robert Evans picking up a yellow card. Wild was confident the card should have been red with Duckworth requiring several minutes of treatment.

“You can’t come in two-footed off the floor and stay on,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “Unfortunately, that could well be a season-ender for him. I’m very disappointed about that and it just compiles my day really.”

Despite Town exiting the FA Trophy, it gives Halifax a chance to focus on the league with the club sitting third in the league, just eight points off top with 13 games to go.

“We’ve got 13 cup finals to go,” Wild said. “But, we are going to have to play a lot better than that to stay where we are. That will be my message going forward to the players.”

Town face Sutton United at home next Saturday and will be hoping for a repeat of the 1-0 win from October.

“We need a reaction out of them,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “We’ve got to make sure we crack on now and that starts with Sutton next week. I’ve made it clear that they all need to improve for next week if they are going to earn the shirt.”
