I could watch this side play football all day long. Their attitude is spot on.

Compare the atmosphere in the Shed now, to last season.

Paul Smith deserves a lot of credit. A change in manager means a lot. I know he pushes a lot of credit onto his players, but he needs to take some himself.

Brilliant to have such a good manger in charge.
Bang on Josh.

Buildbase FA Trophy Second Qualifying Round – Saturday, 9th November 2019

Halesowen Town 2 Grantham Town 1

Man-of-the-match Reece Hewitt hit a brace to send Halesowen through to the next round after a comprehensive victory over higher league Grantham. Prior to kick-off, Remembrance Day weekend was marked by a bugler sounding the “Last Post”.

The BetVictor Northern Premier League visitors could have few complaints as the Yeltz showed extra flair and energy to create a string of good chances in one-way traffic and it was only goalkeeper Adnan Kanuric who kept the Gingerbreads in the game.

The opening stages of the third successive season of FA Trophy meetings with Grantham were even as Hewitt played a one-two with Simeon Cobourne in the 10th minute to earn a corner with his low drive and Bradley Catlow held onto Craig Westcarr’s 23rd minute cross.

But the Yeltz soon took a stranglehold on the game in an excellent display of attacking football.
Josh Hawker touched a 25th minute free-kick for Ash Sammons to fire wide and James Bowen hit a long range effort at goalkeeper Kanuric a minute later.

Hawker unleashed a good shot to bring a flying save from busy, in-form Kanuric in the 31st minute and seconds later Hawker’s close range header was also saved by Kanuric. Montel Gibson then skipped past Jack Broadhead to shoot wide in the 33rd minute. The Gingerbreads posed hardly any threat although skipper Danny Racchi hit a long range effort past the home post in the 39th minute in a rare attempt.

The Yeltz were rewarded for all their hard work in the 41st minute when Cobourne squared for HEWITT to advance into the area and smash home a well deserved goal from the centre of the penalty area. The hosts ended a superb first half with Bowen playing a clever nutmeg to set Gibson free down the left.

There was no let up from Halesowen after the interval as they peppered the Gingerbreads goal in a heart-warming team performance. Gibson’s curling goal-bound 50th minute shot was brilliantly clawed away by goalkeeper Kanuric and Gibson just failed to make a strong enough connection in front of goal from Jamie Ashmore’s cross a minute later. Bowen then surged forward down the left to toe-poke wide after 56 minutes. But it was Kanuric who rescued the Gingerbreads with another fantastic 64th minute save to keep out Gibson’s header from a Sammons cross and Kanuric denied Cobourne a minute later.

A richly deserved second goal remained stubbornly elusive as Hewitt fired inches over the bar in the 68th minute; Sammons shot into the arms of Kanuric three minutes later and Halesowen earned three consecutive corners in the 77th minute.

But the Yeltz finally doubled their lead in the 85th minute when substitute Jamie Molyneux chased the ball down the left and squared for HEWITT to show great composure to slot home calmly into the corner of the net. An 89th minute shot from substitute Luke Yates was then cleared off the line by substitute Charlie Ward.

The Gingerbreads found an unlikely consolation goal in the fourth minute of added time when substitute Francois Zoko tapped home from close range after Catlow couldn’t hold onto a cross to Westcarr on the slippery surface.

Just watching back the superb YeltzTV highlights it reiterated just what a dominant performance that was. Chance after chance and a joy to watch. We could beat anybody at home in this competition, so hopefully we get a favourable draw. First though 3 more big points up for grabs on Saturday.

My thoughts exactly. It really was a fantastic performance.

Someone is going to cop a 6 or 7-0 thrashing against us soon, we just create that many chances.

My only negative comment, if you can call it that (I'd say it's more an observation), is that we really need to convert more of the many chances we create. We could and should have been at least 3 or 4-0 up when Grantham scored their goal, and could've unjustly nicked an equaliser at the end.
