Got out of jail a bit there. We didnt look at it tonight. Im a bit concerned thats been the case the last few games Ive been to but still a million times better than last year however. Maybe a case of too many games at the minute.

First 15 minutes is how we can play. Onwards and upwards

Replay next Tuesday I would imagine.

Really disappointing tonight. Everything felt a bit flat, crowd included. Struggled to find a way through and even went long ball late on which didn’t work either. Never saw an equaliser coming but there you go.

Yates clearly makes a difference (anyone know where he was tonight?) but the players’ heads seemed down tonight. They need a lift for a good performance on Saturday and will need to up our game considerably if we want to win the replay.

Buildbase FA Trophy First Qualifying Round – Tuesday, 29th October 2019

Halesowen Town 2 Stamford AFC 2

Halesowen took an early lead but failed to capitalise and needed a late equaliser to force a Guy Fawkes Night replay in an end-to-end contest.

The hosts made a storming start as Montel Gibson burst down the right to earn a corner and Rob Evans headed a second corner just wide, all in the first minute. The Yeltz then took an 8th minute lead after Gibson crossed from the right for Jamie Molyneux to head against the post and Robbie BUNN was on hand to follow up from the rebound. A low, hard cross from Evans was saved at the second attempt by Danny Haystead in the 9th minute and Gibson missed a great chance to double the lead when free on goal, but he fired wide in the 17th minute one-on-one with Haystead.

But the Daniels gradually weathered the storm and pushed forward to control the latter part of the first-half. Tendai Chitiza’s 26th minute free-kick from the edge of the area was blocked in Stamford’s first real attempt and home goalkeeper Brendon Bunn made a good 32nd minute save from Cleveland Taylor’s cross. Cosmas Matwasa almost met a 35th minute long ball and Ollie Brown-Hill weaved through the home defence before being blocked. The Yeltz defence blocked again when Tom Siddins met Harry Vince’s 39th minute corner. For Halesowen, Gibson’s 41st minute cross just evaded Molyneux as he rushed in.

After Halesowen’s early promise dissipated, the threatening Daniels equalised in the 42nd minute when BROWN-HILL’s 20 yard shot took a wicked deflection to leave goalkeeper Bunn rooted to the spot. Matwasa then crossed for Brown-Hill to fire just over the bar seconds before the half-time whistle.

At the start of the second period Bunn dragged his shot wide after winning the ball and Gibson drove just past the right hand upright in the 64th minute before firing just past the left upright three minutes later.

Stamford pushed on to snatch the lead in the 70th minute when leading scorer SIDDONS converted in front of goal from Vince’s right-wing free-kick. But the Yeltz regrouped and rescued the tie with a route-one late equaliser. Goalkeeper Bunn’s long 88th minute clearance was controlled by GIBSON and he fired home from the edge of the penalty area off the inside of the post to force a replay.

Yates was ill.
We suffered tonight from not converting chances. After 10 minutes we could have been 4 up. Game over. We never gave the game up though even when Stamford seemed to be cruising to 90 minutes, and Montel trusted himself one last time to beat the keeper, this time he did. So yet another cup game for us next week. Before that a vital 3 points to be had.

Disappointing tonight I feel, the whole thing in terms of the atmosphere from the crowd, our performance just felt really flat. Aside from the first 15-20 mins it wasn’t great. Probably the worst performance I have personally seen at the Grove this season.

Don’t get me wrong it’s still better than anything I’ve seen in the last 3/4 seasons here but in terms of the high standards we set ourselves in pre season and the start of the season I feel we have fallen short in the past couple of weeks.

As the gaffer has said, if players are becoming too comfortable then changes will be made, which I personally wouldn’t want to see as I have built an affinity to these players and want to see them succeed as sure many others have too.

Feel we missed Yates tonight as believe he could have been the difference. Also if Gibson would have put his one on one effort in and we would have gone 2-0 up fee lthe game would have been done and dusted.

Least we not out of the tie though, but we need a return to winning ways on Saturday in the league to get a vital 3 points with hopefully a decent performance thrown in too!

Whilst disappointing not to have won, bear in mind that Stamford are going well in an equivalent league.

Prior to last night, they had won 4 in a row, 5-0, 5-1, 5-1 and 3-0.

excellent point, and lets not forget our secret weapon Luke was unwell. How times have changed our expectation levels.
