IF we play like that every week, we'll unsettle a few teams. But we cant score. Oh for a Ben Haseley!!

Hughes helped us last season but I really think his time must be up, offered nothing today and generally more bothered in tussling with defenders

While not game changing, ref was wildly inconsistent and definitely should have had a pen second half from the corner

As has been said we're just missing that final touch at the minute and desperately need to string some kind of results together

I think it is safe to say we’re sh*t.

We need a good FA Cup run (like the end of no°9) to sort this out.

We can’t compete like we used to.

I dont think Hughes legs can carry him tbh. I cant fault his effort but hes playing blokes much younger. Theres no way he'll ever beat them for pace. Sweeney has the pace but no end product and keeps the ball too long at times. Despite losing to THEM, the performance was a million times better than Histon. Its just Stourbr*dge looked likely to score every time they attacked. Whereas we didnt.

Halesowen Town 0 Stourbr*dge 3

Two goals from Luke Benbow eased league leaders Stourbr*dge to victory in the eagerly awaited “Number 9 Derby” in front of a bumper Boxing Day attendance of almost 2,000.

Stourbr*dge made the perfect start when BENBOW was left unmarked to flick home a back header from Robert Thompson-Brown’s deep free-kick after just 55 seconds.

The Yeltz reacted well to the early set-back but Lee Hughes took an extra touch too many when free in the penalty area after 10 minutes and was crowded out by the Stourbr*dge defence. A low free-kick from Joel Taylor then crept just past goalkeeper Niall Maher’s post and Dan Sweeney’s 23rd minute free-kick fell just inches wide.

Leon Broadhurst glanced a 23rd minute header just wide and Halesowen’s Matt Curley cleared a 29th minute corner off the line. The Glassboys went mightily close again in the 40th minute when Greg Mills was sent clear and cut back inside to beat both the last defender and goalkeeper Dan Platt, only to see the ball rebound back off the far post. Benbow’s 20 yard free-kick then flashed just wide in the final minute of an absorbing first half.

After the interval Taylor’s floated cross dropped just wide of the Stourbr*dge goal and Taylor then broke free from Aris Christophorou’s poor throw-in to force a corner for Halesowen with Hughes nodding just wide. Joe Fitzpatrick’s 59th minute free-kick was turned over the bar by visiting goalkeeper Maher.

Livewire Benbow went close again when he fired into the side-netting after an hour before the Glassboys wrapped up the points with two further late goals, despite Halesowen being in contention for much of the game.

Busy Aaron Forde provided an excellent 80th minute cross-field pass to pick out unmarked Kaiman ANDERSON and he finished neatly past advancing goalkeeper Platt. BENBOW then made it 3-0 by rolling home his second goal of the game in the 86th minute from a second rebound after Platt made a fine double save from Forde’s long range shot and then from Broadhurst in front of goal.

Goal-shy Halesowen went close to a consolation in the dying seconds when Kieran Morris planted a free header over the bar and Fitzpatrick’s shot was saved by Maher.

I liked the look of the new lad, Bakare.
Got stuck in and tried to bring the ball forward.

It does feel strange to come off the back of a 3-0 defeat and think we're moving in the right direction. But it does. For the first time under the new management we played for 90 minutes, we tried to play some good football but as others have said there was no end product. When Stour attacked they had Benbow to give the ball to, who was clinical, we had Hughes who wasn't. Twice he had the chance to rifle one past the keeper, on neither occasion did he muster a shot. I'm afraid the willing legs are no longer what they were. There will be more new faces I'm sure and a striker is a must. We need that first win quickly now to start to build confidence, then we may turn the corner.

Another plus. 2000 people and not a hint of trouble. Stour kids must have been playing with new toys at home. Well done everybody!

We'll play a lot worse and win. Need 3 points against Banbury for sure but we did well against the champs in waiting imho.
