There's been quite a lot of criticism of the team, the style and the performances in recent weeks (justified in many cases I have to say) but I think it's only fair that credit is given where due. Defensively we dealt really well with what I feel is one of the leagues better strikers in Danny Waldron and the pain in the arse that is Brodie - we won the battle of the midfield with Jack Rea arguably the best player on the pitch, he broke up numerous spells of possession from Rushall and gave the ball simple every time - his reading of the game was excellent throughout. Roberts once again was excellent as was Hayles-Docherty whose pace was a great asset down the right. He showed great composure to set up our first goal too.
Three wins in 7 days is excellent and the hopefully the catalyst for the team to continue improving. Special mention to the young keep too for an assured performance in goal, I was stood by Platty for the penalty and to hear him say "I fancy him to save this" was great to hear and even better to see him applauding him - Well done Platty - get well soon pal.

Halesowen Town 2 Rushall Olympic 0

A second-half brace from leading striker James Roberts fired rapidly improving Halesowen into the top half of the league table.

The defeat left Rushall without a win in nine games but, by contrast, the Yeltz celebrated their third win of the week - all without conceding a goal - and they started the contest brightly. On-loan Walsall youngster Tobias Hayles-Docherty made a splendid 17th minute run down the right, only for Roberts to just fail to make a proper connection with the delivery. Roberts then had a couple of half chances on the Rushall goal after 20 minutes. But the Pics soon settled to create the better chances in the remainder of the first half.

Tyler Lyttle found Richard Brodie in space in the penalty area after 21 minutes, but he fired into the side-netting. Liam Truslove’s 29th minute shot fell just wide from the edge of the area and Truslove went closer still five minutes later when he rattled the base of the post with a 20-yard shot. Brodie then tracked along the edge of the penalty area before hitting a low 36th minute shot just wide.

At the start of the second period Brodie almost met Lyttle’s fine right-wing cross and Roberts struck a 50th minute shot into the arms of goalkeeper Joseph Slinn from the edge of the area at the opposite end.

The Yeltz took the lead in the 54th minute when lively Hayles-Docherty broke away down the right and squared the ball for ROBERTS to plant the ball into the bottom corner of Slinn’s net.

Home goalkeeper Cameron Gregory made a good one-handed save to keep out Daniel Waldron in the 57th minute but ROBERTS was soon on the mark again by placing past Slinn to double Halesowen’s lead in the 68th minute after latching onto Lee Hughes’ right-wing cross.

The Pics missed a golden lifeline to get back into the game when Greory saved Waldron’s weak 84th minute penalty down the centre of goal after Bradley Lewis was penalised for handling Brian Smikle’s attempt on goal.
