Good test for us, against a good Bromsgrove side.

Thought first half was poor. Everything we did well against Kiddy we didn't do. We seemed laboured in possession and seemed half a yard off the pace.

Second half we were better. We deserved our goal.

As a side note...Bromsgrove are no way three levels below us, anyone know if they've got someone investing serious money in them?

Halesowen Town 1 Bromsgrove Sporting 2

Midland League Division 1 Bromsgrove Sporting ended their pre-season preparations on a high after upsetting higher league Halesowen with two delightfully crafted goals, writes David Johnson.

Bromsgrove started brightly with home goalkeeper Jake King doing just enough to deny Sean Brain twice within the first six minutes. Danny Bragoli then fired wide for Halesowen but livewire Brain caused further danger after 8 minutes after beating the home defence on the right before blasting wide. King saved a further Brain effort after 11 minutes and a 29th minute corner was cleared by the Yeltz defence.

The Rouslers took a deserved 32nd minute lead when Brain’s clever flick set Chris LLOYD free to chip brilliantly over King into the net. Seconds before half-time Brad Lewis headed wide for Halesowen from Maradona’s corner.

King made a fine blocking save early in the second half before the visitors doubled their lead in the 50th minute when Clarke set BRAIN free and he skipped goalkeeper King’s challenge before pausing to net a sublime lob from the left side of the penalty area.

Maradona fired a 54th minute free-kick over the Bromsgrove bar and visiting goalkeeper Neil Leech made a fine 68th minute save to keep out substitute Ashley Parson-Smith’s shot as the Yeltz finally clicked into a higher gear late in the game.

PARSONS-SMITH reduced the arrears in the 77th minute after meeting Tyree Clarke’s cross and sidestepping the last man to convert. Leech made a further good save and an 86th minute Halesowen corner was cleared, but it was Bromsgrove who almost added a further goal in the final minute when Clarke dragged his shot wide when free on goal.

The Yeltz host Evostik League Division One South Gresley FC in the final pre-season friendly at The Grove on Saturday, 6th August, kick-off 3pm.

Halesowen Town: Jake King; Trialist, Bradley Lewis, Jay Denny (c), Kyle Morrison, Asa Charlton, Malcolm Melvin, Danny Bragoli, Kaiman Anderson, Maradona, Ethan Delaney. Subs: Ashley Parsons-Smith, Callum Williams, Aaron Griffiths, Tyree Clarke, Mike Turner.

Referee: Gareth Hubbard
Attendance: 215

I'd like to see both goals again. I think the stand in keeper is a good shot stopper as evidenced by his early save in the second half.

But I'd like to see both goals again. To get lobbed twice in the same game is unusual. Although our no.2 trialist, didn't cover himself in glory, for the first goal.

Although a step in for Platty I do question the keeper we have as second choice.

Put it this way, if we went into vital game needing three points. I'd have Platt in goal.

Nice to be back at the Grove tonight for myself to watch the boys in action for the first time live this season.

Ok, so it was only a pre-season friendly, so can't read too much into it and can't be too over critical but has to be said that the first half we were very poor. Bromsgrove are three steps below us yet based on the first half performance you would have thought it was the opposite way round. We looked sloppy in defence, our No.2 trialist had a right shocker and was quite rightly replaced at half time. They played some great stuff splitting us open with ease and were a good few yards faster than us and more than deserved to be ahead at half time.

After we went 2-0 down in the early part of the second half we finally started to come out and play, Parsons-Smith looked a real threat down the right wing putting in some excellent crosses, and after their keeper made some decent saves we finally got a goal back and maybe could have equalised as the game went on.

Overall though a fair result as Bromsgrove were up for it more than we were. We played some nice stuff ourselves for the last 20 mins or so but was too late and we let ourselves down in the first half, hope for a better performance on Saturday before the real stuff starts.
