A combination of Dudley starting brightly and us maybe looking a little rusty meant it took us maybe 20 minutes to really get going. During this time Dudley probably felt aggrieved to have not taken the lead when they hit the post and a cross shot was tipped onto the bar by Sam.
Once we got going, some of our passing looked really good, with MacKenzie in particular making some great passes to both Ben and Isydyn from the more unfamiliar position of left midfield. Some of Isedyn's touches tonight we're brilliant, particularly on a sticky pitch in places. Our opening goal from a mix up between two Dudley defenders and the ball was heading in as an own goal before Christie made sure from 0.0005cm.
The second half began with Sargeant taking over for Pearson and Tonks for Guyes. This also meant a slight change in the formation to to a 4-3-1-2 formation with Turner playing behind Ben and Christie. It wasn't long before Tonks scored from a deflected effort, but not before Sergeant made two crucial saves. The first coming from a free kick, the ball was heading for the bottom corner of the goal but Seargant flung himself full stretch to his right to tip the ball away to safety. No more than a minute later he also came out to smother another effort to keep the score at 1-0. Moments later Tonks added to the lead.
Dudley pulled a goal back against the run of play to be honest, but to be fair to them you could argue at this point in the game they were unfortunate to be 2-0 behind anyway. More changes came in the second half and Ross Clarke was unlucky to not add to the lead with a 25 yard screamer which is still rattling the crossbar now. Nigel Penney did add to the lead though with a great finish. A lovely pass once more from MacKenzie was latched onto well by Penney who checked his run well before lofting the ball over the young Dudley keeper. The fourth came from Laity late on with a neat strike from the edge of the box after Dudley failed to clear their lines.

All in all, another very useful workout. A few cobwebs blown away for sure, a number of players getting minutes on the pitch and the manager had the opportunity to try out a new formation. Credit to Dudley also who played some good stuff I thought, the difference really between the teams was the quality in the finishing, but you can see why they are doing well in their league as they look like a well organised side.

Looking forward to Goole on Saturday!
