Paul Smith

HALESOWEN TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB can confirm that Paul Smith has stood down as manager of Halesowen Town FC with immediate effect. Paul will remain with the club on a strategic and advisory capacity with the aim of helping build the infrastructure and supporting the growth plans for the future.

Keith McKenna commented, ''Paul has done a fantastic job at our football club and has been instrumental in bringing the good days back. A very successful tenure and he should be very proud of his achievements. Promotion and an unbelievable FA Trophy run were 2 of the most special highlights but not just a manager but a good man who fully understood and embraced the culture of the club. On and off the field he worked tirelessly for the benefit of everyone and I very much appreciate his contribution, effort and professionalism.''

The club can also confirm that Russ Penn has been offered the role of Manager on a long term deal and has accepted the position. He will meet the players tonight and take charge of his first game on Saturday away against Barwell. Our back room staff of Gary, Martin, Josh and Adam will remain and support him in the role.

Keith McKenna stated, ''Russ has a great pedigree within the game both as a pro, non-league and in management and has a strong affinity with the club, he has worked at very high level in non-league and I am absolutely delighted we could attract him. He is energetic and focussed on what we want to achieve at this football club and Iā€™m sure he will be a great success. Iā€™m sure all the fans get right behind him and I personally look forward to working with him. Welcome aboard.''

A statement from Russ Penn will follow soon.

Welcome to the Yeltz Russ

Not entirely surprised and one of my considerations was if Paul was to leave, then he should be allowed to do so with the dignity he deserves. The fact that a replacement has been made also suggests that this was not a hurried decision. I think it is best for all involved.

The point remains that out recruitment of players is good. The majority of players that become established at B63 and subsequently move on do so to at least the same level (or higher). Retaining the same recruitment mechanisms is positive.

Thank you Lutley. Not a huge amount of managerial experience and still a young man really. Clearly he impressed at Kiddy. Id imagine this has been coming for a while in the background.

He's been at the last few home games - was there on Saturday.
