C'mon The F.C.!

Post by YeltzDoc » 01 Aug 2023, 12:02

Another great article on Twitter from the guys behind Yeltz History - https://twitter.com/yeltzhistory/status ... 49056?s=20

But we're referred to as "Halesowen FC" as you often see in pre-war stuff.

Were we really Halesowen FC? Anyone know when the "Town" was added?

Yes, until the 1920s we are exclusively referred to as "Halesowen Football Club." Actually, in the very very early days, we were known as "Halesowen Church Football Club", but that was only for a couple of seasons.

The "Town" part of the name was added officially some time in the 1920s. It's only in the 1926/27 season that the Birmingham Combination officially recognises us as "Halesowen Town".

Great stuff, thanks.

Odd that we’re often still referred to as “Halesowen” in the post-war period, but I guess it’s a combination of shorthand, shoddy journalism and the sort of Luddite behaviour displayed by those who still fight for “Hales Owen”. ;)
