joking aye yer Drummy. Rushden had a few years in the football league and pushed for promotion to div. one. It all went pear shaped when Doc Martens, Max Griggs, pulled out. He used to donate 10pence for every pair of boots sold and as it was a worldwide concern, it amounted to a tidy penny. Unfortunately with the big and well paid playing staff, it left them in serious trouble and went bankrupt and out of business .
That was when they were Rushden and Diamonds after the merger if im correct. It was only when they merged they got league status. Rushden Town and Irthlingborough Diamonds didnt set the world alight.

After the merger Josh they built a brand new stadium. In one of the stairwells was a chandelier that must have been worth more than most non league clubs. They used to broadcast snooker tournaments from there as well. But the best thing was seeing a big electronic scoreboard in the corner of the ground showing that we won 2-1 in the season we pushed them for the title.😁 (I'll conveniently airbrush from this historical tale the 6 against their name in the trophy the following year)😖

Nene Park has now been demolished on two sides. Tragedy best none league, apart from championship relegated sides, Ive been on . Incident Andy, and I am keeping up, I was at that 0-6 match and their goalie was man of the match but every shot that Rushden had ,went in. This was after the merger Josh.

Yeah I saw the state of repair it was in a while ago. What an absolute tragedy. Irrespective of who owned/owed, or whatever, a ground like that should have been put to some use by somebody, somehow. I agree it was the best ground outside the league aside from big relegated teams, that I have been to also. And I also agree everything they hit that day went in but it still felt like a double kick from them after pipping us to the title.

I went to the old ground when the were still Rushden Town . They beat us 5-0 in the fog , so foggy that we could nt see half the goals and so could only guess at the score.
