Play off result

Post by Simons » 02 May 2022, 19:37

In Southern League Division 1 Central, North Leigh have been promoted. They only got in the play off due to Welwyn Garden City not being allowed to take part. Who would have though they would be playing in Step 3 before us.

Why weren’t Welwyn allowed to take part?

And how on Earth can North Leigh be in the step above us? Wow!

North Leigh has a population of 1617! We get bigger attendances…

All I can say is that Welwyn’s ground must be a derelict bomb site if North Leigh is better 😳😳😳

And their team the last time we played them, put Chasetown to shame for tossery. Id love to say I felt any sympathy.

The one leg play offs are the clichéd 'lottery'.

Out of 12 play offs completed at Step 3 and Step 4, four teams finishing 5th were promoted:

Cheshunt to Step 2
Marine to Step 3
Belper Town to Step 3
North Leigh to Step 3 ( well they were actually 6th!)

In fact, being in the last play off slot was statistically the best place to finish:

Second placed teams promoted - 3
Third placed teams promoted - 3
Fourth placed teams promoted - 2
Fifth/sixth placed teams promoted - 4

Even more farcical is that North Leigh finished 21 points behind Bedford …. 21 bloody points 🤯

I also think this new fangled "cross-bar" that we're forced to use is a modern innovation too far. What's wrong with string?
The game's gone!

Did they really used to use string as a cross bar?

Or have I fallen for some sort of joke?
