There's an interesting academic paper in this somewhere.

Perhaps those who are, erm, at the more clinical end of quirky, are attracted to non-league football because of its proximity? Affordability? Intimacy?
And these are all laudable, pseudo-intellectual hypotheses.

But wrong.

The truth is that every club in the world gets 12 proper, "Has anyone seen my camel?" nutters.
Now, if you're at Old Trafford or Villa Park with 50k+ others, you don't see them. However, in gates of a few hundred.....

And the ultimate proof? If you ever go to a game with only 12 spectators.

Every. Single. One.
