I think the only time I went to Harriers in the late eighties was to watch Dynamo Moscow training. They were due to play Wolves the following day in a friendly. I even dragged myself to M*lineux.

I certainly also remember hiking up to the Halesowen Harriers ground on more than one occasion though I can’t find any other competitive games in the records. I suspect Andy is right and we may be thinking about pre-season friendlies and I do recall one fairly warm Summer visit (although I think these friendlies may have been in the 1990s).

As for the tennis courts, the photo is obviously after the opening of the new grandstand (what we now know as the Shed) at the first game of the season on 21st August 1950. The tennis courts couldn’t have lasted much longer, so I doubt the photo can be any later than the mid-1950s.
Thanks DJ and Andy...you may be right in hindsight about it being a friendly.

Im always fascinated by old photos of the town in general.....I missed that part of its history

I remember a friendly up there under John Chambers... must have been summer ‘99 when we were desperately trying to find a replacement for Steve Piearce. I think.

I think we can now be pretty sure about the 1950 date for the tennis courts as the photo is part of a set of seven that appear on the "Britain From Above" project concerning the "James Grove and Sons Ltd Bloomfield Button Works off Stourbr*dge Road and environs, Halesowen, 1950". So the photos must've been taken around the time that the new stand was opened at an evening game on Monday 21st August 1950 (the trees are still in leaf, so it couldn't be too late in the year!). You should be able to find the seven photos on this link:
https://www.britainfromabove.org.uk/en/ ... l&year=all

The opening of the new stand was performed by a Mr Fred Everiss, shortly after his retirement following 46 years service at WBA ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Everiss )

Wasn't there also an Alan Everiss also involved with The Throstles?
