Number of games

By my reckoning, we will play a minimum of 59 matches this season, which includes at least 21 cup games.
    FA Cup 5
      BSC 2
        SL C 2
          FA Trophy 12 (minimum)

Would that be up there as one of the highest number of cup games in a season, if not an overall total?

Probably might be. We did play in 3 senior cups every season at one point though along with group games in the league cup.

67 games played in 1984/85 and 66 games in 1985/86 with 29 and 28 cup games respectively. Remarkably, 23 of those games took place from 3rd April onwards into May in about 53 days during season 1984/85.

I was thinking about this today. Not only is the Trophy run a long one- but we’ve won loads via replays too. As you’ve said- Halifax will be game number 12 in this competition. And that’s quite astonishing.

I would struggle to think of circumstance where this would have happened before- 12 games in one cup competition? I’ve just tweeted my ponderings to see if any statto can beat it.

I think we're seriously into the realms of all time records in all cup competitions here. Bideford played 13 games in the FA Cup in the 1973/74 season and that is an all time record for that competition. But the FA Cup has a longer history and many more entrants per season than the Trophy. This was also the era of unlimited replays per round in that competition (Bideford played 4 replays at the 3rd qualifying round stage in 73/74). Therefore I seriously doubt whether any club could've played 12 games in one season in the FA Trophy before or whether any club entering at the Extra Preliminary Round has ever made it into the final 16 teams?

I’ve been tweeted back that Fleetwood played 13 games in their FA Vase run where they beat....us in the final >:(

But after my YouTube education I know that could have included multiple replays for the same tie, like we had?

You could be right about the Extra Preliminary stat though- Aveley (this year) did play the EP and neither did Ramsbottom who made the final 16 last season.

If a post from a Halifax fan I read is correct there are no replays from this round on. So we could get a maximum of 16 games. Let's hope.....
