Substitute?

Post by JohnC » 04 Dec 2011, 18:37

Definition - take the place of or put in place of another.

Someone pass this on to Sean.

When 2 nil down and not looking likely to score why not give Gueyes a chance and also some of the tired players a rest. Particularly when playing on a sloping pitch and the opposition have put on some (unforced) subs.

Some history.

Hungerford - Westwood on Jackson off.
Poole Town - No subs.
Gosport - Bruce for Westwood
Bishop C - Nesbitt for Jackson - Gueyes for 5 mins.
Tiverton - Jackson for Arshad.

Or shall we blame this on the low budget, ground improvements needed and done. This is called football.

You've "hit the nail on the head" there! It should generate a bit of reasoned discussion, methinks. ::)

I fully accept that the budget set by Steve is based on what can be afforded and must be adhered to if we are not to end up in dire financial straits, as has happened before. The club must be run, primarily, on the money that comes through the turnstiles.
The ground improvements are a much needed boost to The Grove, its smarter appearance puts us in a good light with visiting supporters. But what the club sells is, after all the painting and cleaning is set aside, what people see on the pitch.
The quality of any product determines its sales potential. Sadly, of late, our product has not been of a very high standard.
There will always be a nucleus of diehard fans who attend week after week, but this is not enough to keep the club going or, advance it.
The performance of the team determines how many ‘floating’ customers we can attract at each home game and the recent run of depressing results is not making a trip to The Grove, for a non-regular, a very exciting prospect.
In no way is this a criticism of what has been done up to this point, but there has to be, surely, a long hard look at the style of play - and the tactics employed - in an attempt to reverse this trend.

Unfortunately, very true.
