Help needed researching early years of HTFC/The Grove.

Post by 100groundsproject » 12 Jan 2018, 12:34

The Grove features in a book I’m writing about Britain’s favourite football grounds, as voted by the public. More info here: https://www.facebook.com/100GroundsProject/

I’m at the tail end of the project and hope to have the book out later this year.

Halesowen Town’s formation date and occupancy of the Grove is given as 1873. Are there any sources that corroborate this? I’ve tried the British Newspaper Archive to no avail. Kerry Miller’s The History of Non-League Football Grounds states the early years of the club aren’t well documented and The Black Country Bugle doesn't have a lot of information either.

I’m visiting Dudley Archives next month prior to watching Halesowen Town v Rushall Olympic. This may unearth additional information.

If anyone can help with my research, I’d love to hear from you.

Thanks.
