Just commented on the match thread, results are irrelevant. It's really about fitness and honing the performance to a good match level in readiness for the season starts.

I'd like to have seen us play some professional sides, like Walsall, maybe? Just to see how we fair against them. I see a lot in our league have played their local professional counterparts.

Walsall were meant to play us last season on a Saturday. Pulled out with 48 hours notice and sent the kids on a Tuesday night and demanded half the gate money with 40 complimentary tickets apparently.

That's not great. I respect that it's a challenge to get local professional sides :)

The team always seem to step it up against a higher level. So really not a good indicator of 40+games required.

From what i have seen of the new players and improvement to existing ones, once they get 90 minutes game time match after match we have a good squad of players.

Some of the football has been brilliant, but difficult to get into a rhythm with so many changes each week and so many changes allowed in during the games for both sides. But that is what pre season is about. Seeing new blood in game play.

I also think John and Matt have got to get used to working together.

I am sure we can do better than last year in both league and cups (FA one's that provide some cash rewards).

So if we have a difficult start let's show some patience and a LOT of SUPPPORT.

This may have been brought up before but it still makes no sense to me why the other non-league divisions all started their seasons the Saturday just gone yet ours doesn't start until this Saturday?

I know in other years we have normally started the season the same day as the Premier League so a week later than the Football League however seeing as though even they started a week earlier than normal I thought we would have started the same time as other divisions.

As the other leagues are also playing tonight this means they will have played 2 games by next Saturday which surely is a good thing to play as many games now before the bad weather starts?

Like I say apologies if this has been raised before or already answered but I still see no reasonable rationale/explanation for it.

I believe the clubs in the league voted for starting this weekend as it means they only have to budget for players wages for 37 weeks as opposed to 38 weeks. I should imagine a weeks wages is quite a decent amount for some clubs in the league!

Cheers for this info- love a good bit of statistical analysis!

Raiden makes a fair point about the quality of our opposition, and you can see that the majority of other teams have faced a wider range of opponents.

Stourbr*dge have signed Karl Hawley tonight, who has plenty of league pedigree. Kills me to say it, but they are representing value at 25/1. Hackett's having one last splash of cash!
