Thanks to DJ for the attached pic, which was given to us as a teaser at the match on Saturday.
We think 1988-9, Paddy's last season.
The massed ranks of the great minds assembled across the mixed grills of Saturday came up with -
Back Row, L-R
Fred Birch, ??, Flynny, Mark Lacey or Rhoder, Mickey Guest, ?Mick Martin, ?Nicky Adams, Malcolm, ?? Maybe Peter Sturgess, No idea, Barry Wile, Paddy.
Front Row, L-R
Lee, The Great Ray Anslow, Steve Morall, Penner, Stan Jones (get in), Paul, ??, Cashy.
Any ideas from the old folks as to the ??s?

Back row second in Henry Crampton and is the one you say may be Peter Sturgess a young Sherwood?

Henry Crampton, of course.
And no chance on Shergar. He'd long gone by then, I think Pancho came between him and Cashy as well.

25 seasons ago the 1988-89 squad was:
Back Row: Fred Birch (Trainer), Henry Crampton (Coach), Sean Flynn, John Rhodes, Michael Guest, Neil Stephenson, Nicky Adams, Malcolm Hazlewood (captain), Peter Sturgess, Noel Orbell, Barry Wyle (physio).
Front Row: Lee Joinson, Ray Anslow, Steve Morrall, Mark Penn, Stan Jones, Paul Joinson, Richard Hancox, Stuart Cash.
The most notable ‘senior memory failure’ is Richard Hancox (second right, bottom row), who bettered his playing career by marrying the daughter of Torquay United Chairman Mike Bateson. Subsequent to the article below, I believe he resigned as Tivvy assistant manager after just a month in 2013.

There are also plenty of colourful tales and mentions of Richard Hancox in Garry Nelson’s 1997 book entitled ‘Left Foot in the Grave’, chronicling the 1996-97 season at troubled Torquay United – well worth a read if you stumble upon a copy.
The father-in-law infamously appointed and then sacked new Torquay manager Leroy Rosenior after just ten minutes in charge (possibly the shortest-lived manager in the history of association football?). Ventriloquist Bateson (complete with Algernon – see below) returned as Chairman in 1997 less than a year after a disastrous sale of the club and re-appointed Richard’s wife Debbie and the mother-in-law Sue as Torquay directors.
Here’s a flavour of Richard’s father-in-law…

Great work DJ.
For a Yeltz Forum Special Prize - we played against a side containing Garry Nelson. Which side?

Closer examination suggests I'm wrong though as that was 86-87 and he left in 83....... was it post 1992?

A tenuous link – but then we are dealing with the Doc. Garry Nelson was born in Braintree, so we could say Braintree ‘contained’ him? We beat Braintree Town 2-1 in the FA Cup in 1985 (who can still remember their ‘sack of spuds’ full-back?)

Nostalgia ain't what it was?
Maybe because most people like to forward rather than look back?
I'm not against 'looking back' occasionally, but I know management and players visit the forum.
I think it's a bit sad that we've got a really great management team and players who work their nuts off for the cause and some people seem content on bringing the old times to the fore when this side deserves a damn sight more credit than I see.
finally, what's the point of the 'where are they now' section when people use this section to hark back.
Look back with fondness, but let's not overlook the current squad and all involved.
Up the current Yeltz.

Don't quite follow your train of thought Raiden. Why is it sad to reminisce ? It does not take away from our support of the current team. You can do both AT THE SAME TIME !! clever eh.
