Don't like the Continental lagers meself, my pallet is very Ford Focus-esque with Carling I'm afraid, although I like a Guinness, Strongbow and gin now and then. If I'm really adventurous, I'll have Cobra.

Started drinking again at my local golf club after a 6 month absence (Über-long story, another thread, another time) and they'd had put in Cheddar Valley Cider on draught. The fella behind the bar more-or-less instructed me to 'try before you buy'... the only thing I'll say is that it's the colour of boisterous p#ss, and as flat as a witches' mammary; apparently proper cider is meant to be flat anyroad.
So I necked this quarter-pint sampler, winced like Clint Eastwood... and ordered a pint of Carling.

Went through my Real Ale phase 3 years ago, and considering I was 33 and trendy (up for argument), it was the "in-thing" to do to discuss Real Ales; fortunately, for me anyway, I had an epiphany and after an awful amount of Fox's Knob and the like, I discovered I don't like Real Ale.

Yes, I do expect to be lambasted for my last statement, please discuss

Traditionally, Enville Ale.

More often now Oxford Breakspeare Gold in bottles or Copper Dragon and Timmy Taylor's Landlord on the rare occasion I get to a pub up here.

When I went to visit my mate in Sheffield a few years ago I developed a liking for pride of Sheffield! They also have different guest ales in the bar at Birmingham Uni I liked some of those but I can't remember any of their names!

No. That's not allowed, you've lived outside of the area far to long to count a beer that's brewed only 3 miles and served 200 metres from my house. Not Wolverhampton either before you retort........

Batham's has to be up there with the Enville. One to throw into the mix is from down the inlaws way. Anything Bath Ales brewed is worth a sup.............

So I'm at the Waggon & 'Osses for the first time in nearly two decades and ask for a pint of lager and the whole boozer stops and looks at me, I cack you not.

Any road, when in Rome, I decide to steer away from the Brough's that all the regulars are supping and being the naive Real Ale drinker that I am and considering that I liked smoked haddock, smoked cheese and smoked curry, a pint of Smoked Porter (can't find a link) shouldn't go amiss...

...my experience is as follows:
First sip: Nice! Can actually taste the fruits and nuts, honest!
Second sip: S'okay I suppose
Third sip: Will have to stop wincing, I'm attracting attention!
Fourth sip: For perhaps the second time in my entire life I have to leave half a pint and make a quick exit - I can flippin' well taste the alcohol in that!

Politely put, it's 'an acquired taste'

Think I'll stick to being a Lager Fairy...
