That particular bit of KES (like the Radio 2 Irritant, Steve Wright’s Friday afternoon nonsense, no G) lore, is unfortunately, urban myth.
When I was there, so enamoured of this were we that my mate’s mom wrote to the the ex-Goodie to ask if it was true.
He wrote back and alas, it was a myth.

I’m surprised that the story made it into general knowledge though, are you an Old Edwardian too?

Thanks for putting me right,Doc. I am an Old Halesonian although my cousin went to KES in the sixties he just celebrated his 70th birthday!
