Andy Quy?

Post by Wheels » 02 Dec 2013, 14:13

I have just seen an item on sky sports News about Stoke city's goalkeeping coach Andy Quy having words with an Everton player at half-time in their game on Saturday. The name immediately rang a bell and I wondered whether it was the same guy who played for us in a forgettable relegation season some years ago. I googled him and it doesn't say anything about him having played for us. But it looks vaguely like him from what I remember however mostly I remember his all too regular shouts of ' hold the line ' and ' away ' as I say I just wondered if anyone else remembered him and whether it was the same guy!

I think he played for Belper (after us as he came from Hereford I think?) and wasn't very good at all (although he had large shoes to fill after Danny McDonnell)...... although the team in front of him was even worse, so a little unfair to single him out

Played 45 times for us (under the John Chamber/Alan Moore disastrous relegation season 2000-2001)

Conceded 78 times, W 8, D 11, L 26. But kept 9 cleansheets.........

Yes I think it's certainly him. He left Hereford May 2000

and signed for us for start of 2000/01 season

this was the pre-season when we played some great stuff and then John Chambers made signings in the week before the season started and we ended up relegated

That's right and then the season started and we couldn't score, then couldn't win and then he lost the dressing room and his job shortly afterwards.

The away match at Bath
http://www.yeltzland.net/news/matchrepo ... 0022001#DJ ( I had forgotten Gary Hackett was Alan Moore's Assistant ??? )

I think there was the impression of a half-time dressing room bust-up. Things hadn't gone well in the 1st half and Quy came out on his own well before the 2nd half started,

With Andy Quy (plus Jimmy Quiggin?) and Costas(theleague) Xiourouppa, we must surely have had a player with a surname starting with every letter of the alphabet?

Abell
Bettles
Crisp

A couple of years ago AQ (as we like to call him ;) ) was running a recruitment agency in BoT. Near the market.
